Pigman Triathlon 2010
Palo, IA
2010 Pigman Long Course Triathlon, 22 August 2010
(Sunday)
CVARC is providing assistance to the Pigman Triathlon organizers by
having
hams stationed at different points around the course starting and
finishing at Pleasant Creek
State Recreation Area near Palo. Race contestants
will swim for 1.2 miles, bike for 56 miles and run for 13.1 miles
during the competition.
Many volunteers will be needed to work this big event, from 0700 to
after 1500. We will have stations in the safety boat, at the Linn
County Sheriff's Department, at water stops along the bike and run
courses and mobile stations all along the route. Split shifts are
possible.
More info about the Pigman Triathlon can be found here:
We will meet for the Pigman Triathlon at 0600 at the gazebo in the
first
parking lot on the left just as one enters Pleasant Creek Recreation
Area.
The Pigman Triathlon
is a longer event, starting with a pre-race briefing for the
participants at 0715 and going
until the awards ceremony in the late afternoon. We expect to
secure operations around 1700.
Here's a map of the race course itself, note that the bike ride will
include Shellsburg, Urbana and Vinton as well as Palo:
"Pleasant Creek State Park is located 12 miles northwest of Cedar
Rapids
in eastern Iowa. To reach the park: From I-380 take exit #24 (Blairs
Ferry Road) and head west to Palo (approximately six miles), turn north
on County road W36 and follow signs. Closest airport to the park
is
the Eastern Iowa Airport. It is located about 30 minutes from the
race
site."
Please note: As you come into the recreation area, and
drive
toward the first parking lot, there will be runners and bikers warming
up on the course. Racers will be in the park from 0600 to 0700 to pick
up their registration packets. Please use extra care and allow a few
extra minutes
for your trip.
